Read carefully all the terms in any health insurance program before you sign the agreement.

Most people don't bother checking through their health insurance programs thoroughly when they sign up and it was only later when medical expenses come in that they realize when certain areas aren't covered in the policy and at that stage it is too late to do anything about it.

Even when comparing quotes from different companies that appear to be the same very often the small print can differ quite considerably and this can have a huge impact on your finances if you are hit with medical bills.

Ask your insurance representative to explain all the areas of the health insurance program to you clearly and concisely so you know exactly what you are paying for and the benefits that you will get from your health insurance program.

Don't hesitate to tell them if you are unsure about anything and get them to explain it again until you are happy with the explanation.
